hen you're in an airplane preparing for takeoff, the flight attendant always tells you to put your own mask on first before you try to help a small child. Obviously, you wont be much good to your child when you're gasping for air yourself.

The same principle is true in the spiritual realm. We can't minister to others when our own souls are gasping for air because we've neglected our personal time in the Word and in prayer.

Over a hundred years ago, George Müller wrote: “I saw more clearly than ever that the first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was to have my soul happy in the Lord. The first thing to be concerned about was not how much I might serve the Lord, or how I might glorify the Lord, but how I might get my soul into a happy state, and how my inner man might be nourished.”

Again and again, God clearly teaches the necessity for personal, consistent exposure to the Scriptures. Joshua was told not to let God s law depart from his mouth, but to meditate on the Word “day and night” (Joshua 1:8).

Trying to make it without time in God's Word is like trying to exercise while holding your breath!
